The Florida Collection
My new paintings are inspired by the past winter -- the first entire winter where I have remained in Florida. I have always lived in New Jersey near the Atlantic Ocean. However, here verdant and exotic plant life, colorful flowers, vines, and blossoming trees, and songbirds prompt me to rethink my prior approach to painting. My new paintings, surprisingly more representational than before, convey this abundance.
Almost without thinking, I bring all these visualizations and observations home with me and, almost subconsciously, they reappear in my painting. When painting, I design the still life and view looking out from my studio window, or outside from my patio. I want to bring the outdoors indoors as it has become my muse and my love.
My still life paintings juxtapose fruit with flowers, birds and other objects, shapes, and colors. The transition of space moving from still life to landscape to ocean to sky allows me to create a deep space while simultaneously achieving the feeling of tranquility and peace that I desire.
